Joe Camporeale, USA TODAY Sports Sunday’s TicketGuardian 500 will be the final NASCAR event (IndyCar visits here next month) for the current configuration. Drivers will face a new dynamic in the fall as the track’s start-finish line will be moved from the middle of what is now the frontstretch to what is now turn two.
The change is being made because the track is adding 45,000 grandstand seats to that area of the track as part of its huge renovation project. Restarts and the race finish will be in front of the majority of fans attending the event. The switch is about more than simply redrawing the start-finish line, however.

The new line will be in the area typically known as the dogleg, a misshapen portion of the track in what is now turn two. The track bulges there, and the inside apron expands, giving drivers, in effect, several lanes to choose from and a “shortcut” for the daring. Having those choices in the fall on a revamped track should add to the uncertainty of restarts.
